2020-2021

Fall Sports Summary

As many of you know the fall sports season this year was very different from all the years past. Due to covid 19, Palm Beach, Broward, and Dade counties all were forced to opt out of the Fhsaa Championship series. In lieu of that we participated in what is called the Tri-county Championship. The first step in this process was winning the county championship. All of these were completed this past week and I invite you to read the season summaries for the fall sports! The county champions and some runner-up teams in each sport have been selected to compete in the Tri-County Championship, with each sports tournament dates to be determined.

Football will be given the opportunity to compete in a post-season bowl, and depending how the rankings work out girls' volleyball will be playing in the postseason as well

Please enjoy the stories attached and I hope everyone has a great relaxing and healthy Thanksgiving!

Girls Golf

Coach Heinrichs

Girl's golf just wrapped up another successful season going undefeated and winning the county championship. On top of winning the championship we also had the 16 and 2nd place individual golfers, Makenna Rodriguez, and Kyrsten Shawah. Congratulations are also in order for our two seniors Kyrsten Shawah, and Makenna Rodriguez. Kyrsten committed to Virginia Tech and Makenna committed to Howard University, both for golf. Our Juniors Sophia Louis, and Gabrielle Bertholet also were a huge part of our success this year, we look forward to their leadership next year as seniors. And finally we had a great year of additions with new Freshman Golfers Julia Gelsino, Sloane Givens, and Lara Katz, all had fantastic seasons and we look forward to their growth as individuals, students and of course golfers. I am so proud of all the girls have accomplished in this crazy year, under such trying circumstances, If you see any of these girls around give them a huge shout out.

Boys Golf

Boy's Golf had an outstanding season in 2020-2021. Due to Covid the team was limited in access to golf courses and in spite of limited practice and match time the team qualified for the Tri-County Championship, missing winning the County Championship by 3 strokes. The team was led by Carlos Caloca, with strong support from sophomores Jay Brooks, Mu Sun and Andrew Shavitz. Freshman Michael Feldman rounded out the tournament team. Jay Brooks regular season scoring average was35.5, followed by Mu Suns 38 and Carlos' 39.

Boys and Girls Bowling

Now that the season is wrapped up. Spanish river Bowling Both Boys and girls had a great showing at the county tournament, where all schools in Palm Beach county were invited.

Both boys and girls finished in the top six in the county tournament that was held yesterday up at Jupiter bowling alley. Very proud of the way we finished the season. Even though everyone contributed to our great season ending match I want to mention some of the standouts For Boys Logan Smiciklas and Reese Garcia both bowlers had great clutch performances all season. For the Girls the whole team had a steady performance all season also. The stand-out performance for the girls would be our freshman anchor Ayla Helmle who was a great addition for the girls team. Next year I will be looking for bowlers because I have seniors moving on If you enjoy bowling tryouts for next year's team. Our team now qualifies for a Tri-county match at sawgrass lanes in coral springs florida. Thank you everyone for representing Spanish River proudly.

Girls Volleyball

The Spanish River Girls Volleyball Team has been playing what we have dubbed the "covid-19" season. This year we are 5-3 and with 2 more matches to go. On the team, we have 4 seniors that have been with our volleyball program all 4 years. Sophia Tavares is one of the 4 seniors that leads the team. She started on our freshman team and made her way to varsity. Eliana Pollay and Helene Nisenbaum are not just talented athletically, but they also lead us academically on the team. Our final senior Alexis Rigdon has been a 4 year player on varsity and has earned herself a scholarship to play at Felician University, in New Jersey. Other than being great volleyball players and good students, they are wonderful people. We look forward to seeing what the future brings them
